Review: Urban Decay - Authentic NAKED 3 palette

Hello, loves!

For my debut post, I had decided on formulating a review post for my current Holy Grail eyeshadow palette: My Naked 3 palette!

This one came as a birthday gift from one of my best friends, and she ordered the palette directly from Sephora. With all the imitations and so called "singapore authentic" versions coming out of this palette, she ordered it from Sephora, just to be sure.

The packaging itself is very similar to that of the second Naked palette, as you can see above. I find that this particular version of the Naked series has the sturdiest packaging. Like they say, third time's the charm! Despite the similar packaging, I had less trouble with the locks of my Naked 3 palette. It did not have problems getting stuck and I had no difficulties opening or closing it. The shadows were also all placed well within the tin packaging. I always had the problem wherein the pans of my shadows from my Naked 2 palette would fall out. This has caused breakage and wastage of the beautiful shadows. Fortunately, this was not something I faced with my Naked 3 palette. 2 and a half weeks, and they're still in place! Bravo, Urban Decay!

The wide box has a small space for this freebie. Like in every other Naked palette, this one comes with a sample sized Urban Decay product. Almost like the first Naked palette, the Naked 3 came with the UD Primer Potion; however, this one is a small set of the four variants of the said line. Each pouch is said to contain a week's worth of primer. Since there are four, obviously, this is a month's worth. For me, though, this would probably last more, since I don't always use primer when I put on eyeshadow for school.

The palette itself contains 12 full-sized eyeshadows. The shadows are mostly rose-hued or pink toned. Personally, this is perfect for me, as I have a fair complexion that looks instantly brightened by rose-hued makeup. The shades are also more "day look" friendly, in comparison to the Naked 2's glamorous "night look" set.

Here is a description of the Naked 3 from the Sephora website:

"What it is:

A mirrored compact packed with a dozen never-before-seen rose-hued neutrals, plus a double-ended brush and an Eyeshadow Primer Potion sampler.

What it does:
Dare to get Naked all over again with Urban Decay’s latest shadow palette. Naked3 debuts 12 insanely beautiful rose-hued neutrals in an impressive range of shades—from pale, shimmery pink to deep black matte with red microglitter—in ultrasmooth matte, pearl, and glimmering metallic finishes. Each shadow features Urban Decay’s Pigment Infusion System™, the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich color, serious staying power, and blendability.

This set contains:
- 0.05 oz x 12 Eyeshadows in Strange (pale neutral pink matte-satin), Dust (pale metallic pink shimmer w/iridescent micro-glitter), Burnout (light pinky-peach satin), Limit (light dusty rose matte), Buzz (metallic rose shimmer w/silver microglitter), Trick (light metallic pinky-copper shimmer w/tonal microsparkle), Nooner (medium pinky-brown matte), Liar (medium metallic mauve shimmer), Factory (pinky-brown satin), Mugshot (metallic taupe shimmer w/slight pink shift), Darkside (deep taupe-mauve satin), Blackheart (smoky black matte w/rosy red microsparkle)
- Double-ended brush
- 4 x 0.025 oz Eyeshadow Primer Potion sample packettes

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates

What else you need to know:
The gorgeous rose-gold art-school-inspired tin case hints at the shades inside. Embossed on top with a big “Naked3” and cool facets that beg to be touched, this case is sure to inspire lots of jealous stares. Naked3 also includes a new double-ended shadow/blending brush and an Eyeshadow Primer Potion sampler with resealable samples of all four formulas (Original, Sin, Eden, and Anti-Aging). Each sample holds about a week’s worth of Primer."

Here are some swatches of the shadows from the Naked 3 palette.

And here is a makeup look that I devised while I was experimenting with this sumptuous set as I prepared to be a bridesmaid for my cousin's wedding. I used Strange as a base, then applied Mugshot all over the entire lid. For the crease, I used the shade Darkside, then filled in the outer corners of my eyes with my favorite shade, Blackheart. I used a soft blending brush to get rid of any harsh lines, and voila!

What do I love about this palette?
  • There are no parabens!
  • Packaging is made of sturdy material
  • The shadows are all highly pigmented
  • Most of the shadows have minimal fallout. Mind my use of the word "most". (See Dislikes section)
  • Blackheart! This black eyeshadow with red micro-glitters just amazes me. It's the most pigmented shadow of the entire palette, and it's such a unique blend!
  • Highly blendable
  • Lasts around 2-5 hours without primer
  • Great for neutral day looks
  • Great for everyday looks!
  • That soft, high quality brush that comes with the palette <3
What I did NOT love about this palette?
  • The shade dust has the worst fallout of the bunch. It's almost similar to those loose glitter bottles. Awful. Just plain awful. Why, Urban Decay? You were almost there!
  • The matte shades take several layers of application before they properly show up
  • Shades can be too similar sometimes
  • Certain shades like Nooner may not show up on darker skin. Believe me, I've tried it on a friend and we just couldn't get it to show up.
Overall Score: 8.5/10

Splurge or Save?
I still think that the price is pretty steep for a regular consumer; however, for those that have extra cash to splurge on this baby, go for it! It's worth every penny, or in my case, every peso! The shadows are of great quality and have been formulated quite well by Urban Decay. Makeup is always a hit or miss kind of thing. For me, this definitely hit the mark. I'm so grateful for my friend, Angelica, who gave this celestial palette to me. Of course, it isn't perfect, but I can overlook its imperfections for the things that Urban Decay did do right for the Naked 3. It's gorgeous. I lack the proper word to describe this palette, but it's definitely something that makeup junkies should definitely get their hands on.
